“O, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!” – Walter Scott
ELDER PATRIOT- From the land of fruits and nuts comes this: A California woman has brought a lawsuit to prevent the abortion of her baby.
Melissa Cook entered into a surrogacy agreement with a Georgia man who is threatening to financially ruin her by having the courts impose monetary damages due to her violation of their contract that gives him the power to ask for a “reduction” at his discretion.
This was an inevitable outcome of the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe V. Wade that paved the way for the treatment of God’s gift as nothing more than fetal tissue. Once the existence of life was denied the laws were tilted so that people eventually became free to trade the “mass of cells” they were carrying in commercial ways leading us to the situation Ms. Cook now finds herself in.
Under California law she is nothing more than an incubator to be used by someone else for that person’s purposes. The law no longer views her as the mother of these children instead she’s been supplanted in importance in the eyes of the law by a sperm donor and his money.
UNDER THE LAWS OF LIBERAL CALIFORNIA NOT SO MUCH
The babies may be murdered at the direction of the man who bought the rights to them giving the babies less rights than slaves had in the Southern States where laws protected against killing them.
The California law does not square with the Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004 (Public Law 108-212) which recognizes a child in utero as a legal victim, if they are injured or killed during the commission of any of over 60 listed federal crimes of violence. The law defines “child in utero” as “a member of the species Homo sapiens, at any stage of development, who is carried in the womb”. The fact that this federal law stops short of listing abortion, as a crime of violence, is hypocritical and is a clear twisting of the meaning behind the law in order to assuage political pressures.
When man violates God’s teachings under the premise that God never envisioned today’s technology he creates a tangled web that ultimately diminishes our humanity.
Laws without underlying values cannot endure time and scrutiny. And, values never change despite changes in time and fashion.
