VIA| Law enforcement has heightened security in a number of areas in anticipation for New Year’s Eve celebrations this week.
As it turns out, their vigilance is with good reason. Reports claim a New York man was intending to hack restaurant/bar goers with a machete tonight.
The man, Emanuel Lutchman, was reportedly in contact with an ISIS affiliate in Syria.
According to The Hill:
Emanuel Lutchman, an ex-con Muslim convert who suffers from mental illness, was allegedly planning to attack and kill civilians with a machete at diners and restaurants in Rochester, N.Y., according to court documents.
The FBI said Lutchman had pledged allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and was in contact with an ISIS affiliate in Syria who encouraged him to kill non-Muslim civilians. “New Years is here soon. Do operations and kill some kuffar,” his contact allegedly told him, according to the court documents.
Authorities arrested the suspect with the help of paid informants who provided the FBI with recordings of conversations and screen shots of electronic communications with Lutchman.
