Even before he entered the presidential race in 2015, billionaire businessmanDonald Trump had called for building a wall along our nation’s southern border, and he intended to make Mexico pay for it.
Of course, many, including some Mexican officials, have decried even building a wall as simply impossible and unworkable and state that there is literally no way to make them pay for the wall.
Trump has finally answered those critics though with a memo sent to The Washington Post, which detailed some of his plan to make Mexico pay for the wall, whether they want to or not.
Trump stated that he “would threaten to change a rule under the USA Patriot Act anti-terrorism law to cut off a portion of the funds sent to Mexico through money transfers, commonly known as remittances. The threat would be withdrawn if Mexico made ‘a one-time payment of $5-10 billion’ to pay for the border wall.”
