If anyone remembers that limey hack Piers Morgan over at CNN who attempted to bring his British hating of guns over to the U.S., and spew propaganda that America’s violent society should demand gun controls similar to his home country, then irony is indeed a tasty treat. As we now discover across the pond that despite extreme gun restrictions in jolly ole England, it has done little to stop their own violence through the use of other weapons, and is now bringing their government to call for a surrendering of knives as a desperate effort to slow down crime.
The right to bear arms might be under attack here in America–but in the United Kingdom, police are trying to do something even more ridiculous: they’re attempting to ban knives.
The British police have recently joined forces with liberal grassroots activists in the UK, launching the “Save a Life–Surrender Your Knife” program. Knife crime has been climbing recently in major UK cities like London.
The program involved several weeks of “amnesty” for “pointed knives.” Civilians can turn in these apparently dangerous weapons at their local police station in exchange for “amnesty,” apparently, even though knives (rounded or pointed) aren’t illegal in the United Kingdom. – Citizen-Action.com
In fact, the paranoia over knives in Britain is now so great, they have banned the purchasing of plastic knives used at picnics or for eating by anyone under the age of 18.
Perhaps this new ban is due to the fact that according to FBI statistics, Britain per capita has eight times more violent crimes than America has, and this includes a limited number of gun crimes since firearms were banned to citizens back in 1997.
We need to thank our English speaking cousins across the pond for proving once and for all that violence is not tied to guns or gun ownership, but to the individuals who choose violence as a means of aggressive behavior. And when you take away one form of weapon from a citizenry, they will find something else, including plastic knives it appears, to achieve their criminal intent despite a government’s best efforts to ban everything.
