VIA| Very few were surprised that President Barack Obama took a shot or two at billionaire businessman and presidential candidate Donald Trump during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address.
However, some were a bit surprised when Trump seemingly received a couple of underhanded blows from South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley during the official Republican response to Obama’s SOTU speech.
Speaking to the co-hosts of Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” morning program, Trump issued his own response to the shots taken at him Tuesday night, according to Breitbart.
Trump essentially dismissed the comments made by Obama, proclaiming him to be living in a “fantasyland” regarding the seriousness of the many threats facing our country at this time.
On the other hand, Trump had more than a few words for Nikki Haley.
“She’s weak on illegal immigration, and she certainly has no trouble asking me for campaign contributions, ‘cause over the years she’s asked me for a hell of a lot of money in campaign contributions,” Trump declared.
“So, you know, it’s sort of interesting to hear,” he continued. “Perhaps, if I weren’t running she’d be in my office asking for money. But now that I’m running, she wants to take a weak side on immigration.”
“I feel very strongly about illegal immigration. She doesn’t, and I think the people in her great state, I love her state, I’m there a lot, and by the way I have a massive lead in South Carolina. We have a massive lead. They’re incredible people, and they feel like I do. Believe me. Because they don’t like what’s happening in our country,” he added.
Haley has been touted by many as one of the top potential candidates for the vice presidential slot on the GOP’s ticket in the general election, but Trump made it clear that she likely wouldn’t be his top choice for a running mate when asked if they would be paired together.
“We’ll pick somebody, but we’ll pick somebody who’s very good,” Trump replied. “But whoever I pick is going to be very strong on illegal immigration. We’ve had it. We’ve had it with illegal immigration.”
Donald Trump has made illegal immigration one of the top issues in his campaign, and it is not likely that he will surround himself with others that don’t share the same intensity and determination to actually address the problem — or be deterred by snide or underhanded comments aimed at him.
