VIA| How often do you stop to think about your ancestors? Look at your palm. Think about how yourmother and father created you. And how their mothers and fathers created them and so on. The generations before us literally made us possible.
Over thousands of years, hundreds of generations have united together to create every human on this planet. It’s amazing to wonder what your great-great-great-great grandparents were eating for dinner. Anthropologist dedicate their careers to asking such questions.
On a search to discover the origin of blue eyes, scientists think they may have uncovered a secret. And it was found back about 128 generations ago.
Scientists believe that every person with blue eyes descended from a single individual living in Europe about 6,000-10,000 years ago.
Up until that mutant was born, scientists believe humans had brown eyes. But the gene known as OCA2 began to change the way the body produced pigment or coloring.
As that gene changed, eye color began to evolve as well.
Ten years ago, scientists found the gene responsible for blue eyes – HERC2 – in a well-preserved Stone Age man found in Spain.
Tests of this man found the blue eyed gene. This was the oldest known specimen ever found. This person could be the great-great…great-grandfather responsible for all blue-eyed people alive today.
