Now THIS is real dancing!
VIA| A video from the 1960’s shows a crazy dance by Chubby Checker. In the video, Checker is moving smoother than ever, surrounded by his dancing partners, all dancing in unison to create the utmost visually pleasing effect.
The Twist was originally released in early 1959 by Hank Ballard and the Midnighters as a B-side to “Teardrops on Your Letter”. It eventually number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 19, 1960.
In the video, Checker is bouncing around the stage with such energy it would make anybody tired just watching him! But the charisma and pleasure that he gives off in the video just makes you want to get up and DANCE too!
For an amazing 2 and a half minutes, Checker keeps center stage, while running through dance lines and of course, twisting and turning. Checker not only pulls the smoothest moves, but sings during the song too, getting everybody into the groove.
Next time when the song comes on, maybe it will be time to get up and shout “Come on, baby, let’s do the twist!”
