ELDER PATRIOT – I often wonder if Liberals are ignorant of history and the laws governing America’s governance or if they are willing mouthpieces of deceit in misguided support of a globalist utopia. That question arose again as I read the comments that George Clooney made at the Berlin Film Festival yesterday.
This is what Clooney had to say to an interviewer from Business Insider:
“I mean there are some extreme voices out there. I always have to caution people when they watch American politics that we go a little crazy during the political season and it’s a very long season. And the xenophobic, fascist sort of ‘no Muslims are going to come into the United States,’ that’s never going to happen, you know, that’s not going to happen in the United States.
That’s not who we are, that’s not who we have ever been, that’s not how this country was formed.”
We’ve heard a lot of these misrepresentations, outright lies, and denigrating labels aimed towards those who disagree with his open borders stance. In one short speech Clooney champions the “Big Lie” being advanced by the unlimited immigration crowd and, both, ridicules and ostracizes those who disagree with him.
Joseph Goebbels and Saul Alinsky would be proud of Clooney.
As are most celebrities who spout off on liberal issues that they are ill prepared to defend, Clooney is wrong on all counts.
The U.S. Constitution is mum on immigration law after 1808 but what little it did say strictly prohibited Congress’ powers and vested all of the decision-making in the states:
POWER FORBIDDEN TO CONGRESS
Section 9. The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.
Congress did eventually act on legislating immigration into the United States and a review of the immigration laws that it passed sheds light on just how wrong Clooney is about America’s open immigration heritage.
Pertinent legislative action enacted since 1882:
1882. The Chinese exclusion law curbed Chinese immigration. Also excluded were persons convicted of political offenses, lunatics, idiots, and persons likely to become public charges. The law placed a head tax on each immigrant.
1885. Admission of contract laborers was banned.
1888. Provisions were adopted to provide for the expulsion of aliens.
1903. Polygamists and political radicals were added to the exclusion list.
1906. Procedural safeguards for naturalization were enacted. Knowledge of English was made a basic requirement.
1907. A bill increased the head tax on immigrants, and added people with physical or mental defects or tuberculosis and children unaccompanied by parents to the exclusion list. Japanese immigration became restricted.
1917. Added to the exclusion list were illiterates, persons of psychopathic inferiority, men as well as women entering for immoral purposes, alcoholics, stowaways, and vagrants.
1921. The first quantitative immigration law was adopted. It set temporary annual quotas according to nationality.
1924. The first permanent immigration quota law established a preference quota system.
1929. The annual quotas of the 1924 Act were made permanent.
1950. The grounds for exclusion and deportation of subversives were expanded. All aliens were required to report their address annually.
To be fair there were also laws enacted to advance immigration from specified regions of the world as well as allowing for guest workers. The relevant takeaway from America’s history of legislating immigration is that Congress seized the right to control immigration into the United States and, as Congress is directly answerable to the will of the people, Congress can legislate to close down immigration in whole or in part as the people demand and as it has in the past.
So, the next time someone labels you a Xenophobe or a Fascist you’ll be within your rights to call him or her an ignorant, self-hating moron acting as a parrot for the globalist agenda.
