VIA| Obama has been trying to shut down Guantanamo Bay for years.
In the past few months, he has been moving swiftly to make this happen before his term is up. There are now less than 100 detainees left, and the number is dropping quickly.
The military has just gone public with its decision to stand against Obama on this issue. What’s even better is that having them on board is essential for Obama to executive his plan of bypassing Congress.
“Current law prohibits the use of funds to ‘transfer, release or assist in the transfer or release’ of detainees of Guantanamo Bay to or within the United States, and prohibits the construction, modification or acquisition of any facility within the United States to house any Guantanamo detainee. The Joint Staff will not take any action contrary to those restrictions,” Lt. Gen. William Mayville Jr. said.
Without their support, Obama can’t make his move. We thank Lt. Mayville Jr. Do you think Gitmo should stay open?
