ELDER PATRIOT – The Founders warned us about devolving into a two-party system. They feared the parties would develop into repositories of despotism. Our world is so upside down today that a true two-party system would be a major improvement over what we now have with both Democrats and Republicans governing as a single party more resembling the old Soviet Politburo or the National People’s Congress of China.
Congress is charged with maintaining checks and balances on an out of control president. In fact, Congress’ responsibility is so broad in maintaining proper behavior by all three branches of government that it holds the power of impeachment over rogue Supreme Court justices as well as members of the Senate and House..
Impeachment is a drastic measure reserved for illegal or traitorous behavior and is not an appropriate way to address political differences between office holders of different parties. Leveraging control of the funding mechanism that is uniquely under the control of Congress, however, is a wholly legitimate tool to restrain the president’s actions and is expected as an obligation of a Congressional office-holder.
This is why I am now calling for Speaker Ryan and Majority Leader McConnell to resign. They have refused to cut off funding for President Obama’s massive importation of immigrants from Islamic countries who we have no way of sufficiently vetting according to his own security experts.
The Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration and the Nation Interest, Jeff Sessions spoke out of exasperation today after meeting with both Ryan and McConnell because they have orchestrated a procedural vote on a single omnibus spending package meaning senators and representatives can either vote for everything or they can vote to shut the government down.
Sorry, the show vote to defund Obamacare was last week. This is the real vote. The high-quality glossy campaign piece you’ll be receiving in the mail soon won’t mention the real vote.
That’s correct, Ryan and McConnell orchestrated support for the president’s reckless, nay treasonous Syrian immigration bill by making it politically infeasible to vote against it.
Sessions explained that everything was negotiated in secret:
“It’s going to be jammed through. Members of the Senate are very frustrated. We have no idea what the contested issues are [in the omnibus spending bill] and how they’re going to be decided and who’s deciding.
It’s now in one piece of legislation… And a group is meeting in secret agreeing to what will go in and what won’t go in. It’ll hit the floor of the House soon and then the Senate. If you don’t vote for it, you shut the government down and you’re a bad guy. And that’s the way it’s been year after year after year.
No wonder the American people are not happy. It’s not going to do anything to even control in any way the power of the president to bring in unlimited numbers of refugees and in effect require the taxpayers of America to pay for it.”
Sessions told Sean Hannity:
“The president on the refugee policy has unlimited powers. All he has to do is tell Congress what he intends to do. So he’s now talking about not… 10,000 next year but 30,000—he could go to 50 or 100,000 if he chose—and Congress has put itself in a position to fund whatever level he decides.”
Today’s Republican Party establishment is as corrupt as any group of politicians in America’s history. They have steadfastly spent the past seven years adding to the debt our children will inherit while disregarding our family values and now our family’s safety. The blood of even a single terror attack caused by a new Middle Eastern immigrant going forward will be on their hands forever.
They ran for election as budgetary hawks and defense-minded conservatives. They lied to us. For this they must go. The sooner, the better. Especially Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell who have orchestrated America’s descent into a one-party system that ignores our nation’s sovereignty and solvency and jabs a giant thumb in the eye of America’s taxpaying families.
