VIA| A university in Illinois took a shamefully un-American position by banning the American flag during today’s September 11 anniversary memorial.
Only after intense public outcry did University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana change its mind and allow the patriotic students to fly the flags.
Over the weekend, the university’s College Republican chapter made an announcement that it would plant 2,977 flags in the campus quad to remember the number of lives we lost on September 11, 2001. The attack, committed by Islamic radicals, was the worst act of terrorism committed on American soil.
The College Republicans posted on Facebook asking for volunteers to help, but quickly had to edit their post with the following announcement: “Developing Story: University of Illinois denies College Republicans permission to plant American Flags on the Quad for a 9/11 remembrance project. More details soon.”
The story quickly went viral, and the liberal university’s explanation was they won’t allow anything to be poked into the ground due to the school’s “irrigation system.” Ridiculous!
The alternative option of using flags on top of paper cups was suggested, but how did the school know the College Republicans didn’t have that in mind already? Something smelled fishy about the school’s lame reasoning.
Quickly, the student body was mobilized, and the chancellor’s office was overwhelmed with phone calls and emails. Students wanted to honor those we lost on 9/11, and no one was going to get in their way!
Finally, the university backed down, and the College Republicans announced that today, all flags would be displayed proudly.
“We look forward to being able to honor the victims of 9/11 and hope you will come out to help remember the fallen.”
What a fantastic story! Too many liberal faculty members and administrators think the American flag itself is “politically incorrect.” They despise the values of our Founding Fathers and the freedoms our red, white, and blue flag represents. That’s why I am thrilled to see the school exposed so quickly, before they could stop the 9/11 memorial!
