ROMNEY WORDSWORTH – The American middle class is being destroyed. You’ve read the numbers:
In 1970 middle class households took home 62% of all income in America. Today middle class households only take 43% of all income.
Back in 1971, 61% of all Americans lived in middle class households. Now they are in the minority.
Between 2001 and 2013, median wealth for the American middle class fell 28%.
Since 2007, America has shed 6 million high paying manufacturing jobs. In the same time period the Obama economy has created 11 million part time jobs that have almost all gone to foreigners, many of them here illegally.
According to the Social Security Administration, 51% of all American workers make less than $30,000.00 a year.
The U.S. has dropped to 19th in the world when it comes to median wealth per adult.
If you have no debt and also have $10.00 in your pocket, that gives you a greater net worth than 25% of all Americans.
An astounding 48.8% of all 25 year old Americans live at home with their parents.
The number of working age adults in America who no longer have a job numbers 102 million. The government only counts 10 million of them as “unemployed”.
You’ve heard the anecdotal statistics:
Since 2000, 95% of all new households in King County (where Seattle, Washington is) are either rich or poor. Only 5% are middle income.
Out of 85,000 households examined, 40,000 were low income ($35,000 a year or less) and 40,000 were high income ($125,000 or more). Just 3,500 households earned between $35,000 and $125,000.
How is it that poor households are purchasing new homes in the Seattle area over middle class households at a rate of 10 to 1? Two reasons. First, the Middle Class is shrinking in terms of raw numbers. Second, the government is giving a crazy amount of assistance to the favored poor at the expense of the middle class stiffs and suckers who get stuck with paying all the bills of the Federal government. The Feds give the poor (reliable DemocRat voters) HUD grants, the Homeownership Voucher Program, and other subsidies like free healthcare and food stamps. Builders are given huge subsidies to build “affordable” housing.
Everything is rigged and engineered to push the American middle class down into the ranks of the poor, and into government dependency. Because once they succeed in putting you on the Government Plantation, it is exceedingly difficult to escape. This is because the welfare and assistance programs are all designed to keep you locked in. This is accomplished by their structure: Earn even a dollar more than the income eligibility, and you lose it ALL.
If the government were really interested in getting the poor out of poverty, they would reduce government assistance on a dollar for dollar basis, letting the poor earn they way out of dependency by growing their private incomes. By yanking all assistance away, the Feds build a high wall around the Plantation, making it impossible for the poor to escape unless they hit the lottery, marry their way off the Plantation, or strike it rich instantly in some other way like professional sports.
But there is another way the government and corporate America is conspiring to destroy the American middle class: In Shoring of American jobs. What is In Shoring? It is my term for what I see every working day. It is the abuse of the H1-B visa program by America’s corporate giants to import cheap foreign labor to displace American middle class workers and keep compensation rates low for what ought to be well paying jobs.
I have personal access to, and am an eyewitness of, the In Shoring process. Household corporate names in the Northeast of America are doing it. Names like Johnson & Johnson, Verizon, Merck, Ortho, and many, many others. Legions of workers from India are living on an extended basis at motels along highways in the Northeast, and call Uber cars every day to go to and from these jobs (hi-tech, sales, support, and managerial) at these well known companies. The foreign workers don’t know how long they will be here. They don’t buy homes, they don’t put down roots, they don’t invest in the local economy or the community. What they do is take away the jobs of the middle class. They take entry level positions in corporations away from American college graduates.
This is what In Shoring is. It is destroying the middle class of America just as surely as the Off Shoring of American manufacturing jobs has been. We all know the trope of calling customer support at American companies and getting India. Well, it’s true. More middle class jobs that are gone from America.
As the above chart by the Pew Research Center shows, the loss of middle class jobs in America is both broad and deep. What is driving this?
The short answer: Obamacare and taxes. Of course, that is redundant, because Obamacare is more a tax law than it is a healthcare law.
Obamacare has caused, singlehandedly, the destruction of millions upon millions of full time jobs, because employers cannot afford the mandates. Obamacare is causing corporate America to balloon and abuse the H1-B visa program to substitute foreign workers for American workers, because they aren’t subject to Obamacare mandates, and of course because the foreigners will work for one third the salary. But perhaps not for long, as Americans become desperate, and poverty becomes the New Normal in America.
You want to know why Donald Trump’s campaign slogan of “Make America Great Again” resonates with so many Americans? Why Trump is filling football stadiums with every rally? This is why. Trump is the last hope for the restoration of the Middle Class in America.
