VIA| Hannah Grace and Danielle Lyn are identical twins who share the same mother — yet they were born in different years. Sounds crazy, right?
Veronica of Abilene, TX was pregnant when she went to the hospital on New Year’s Eve, 2013. It was supposed to be a routine check-up. Little did the expectant mother know, 60 seconds would soon make a year’s difference in her family’s lives.
Veronica wasn’t scheduled to deliver the twins until January 3, 2014, but on New Year’s Eve she unexpectedly found herself in the throws of childbirth. She gave birth to Hannah at 11:59 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, 2013. 40 seconds into the New Year, Hannah’s identical twin sister Danielle was born at 12:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day, 2014. Talk about a sudden twist of fate.
But the one-minute difference in birth years isn’t the only thing that makes these twin girls so incredible. While Veronica was pregnant, the twins were diagnosed with a rare disorder known as twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, or TTTS. Hannah and Danielle shared blood vessels, so one baby got too much blood while the other baby didn’t get enough. Doctors thought one of the twins would not make it.
