VIA| You know what a BIC pen looks like, right? We’ve all seen them countless times throughout our lives and probably never gave them a second glance.
But did you know that back in 1991, BIC changed the design of their pens? The change was so small it was almost impossible to notice.
The caps now include tiny holes in the top. And this little hole has prevent more than 100 children from choking to death on the pen cap.
Children seem very eager to put small and dangerous items in their mouths. Like how this baby swallowed a feather and no one knew until it poked out of her neck.
Even adults are known to chew the pen cap. So BIC’s little change could save a careless adult’s life too.
So how does the hole in the pen cap save lives? It allows air to pass through keeping the victim safe and breathing.
Because BIC innovation saved lives, many other pen companies followed suit and made similar changes to their pen caps.
If you have small children or know someone who does, watch the video below about how to save a choking baby.
