VIA – Nothing is easy in the life of 14-year-old Jonathan Pitre — save for the methadone induced sleep he descends into each night.

Jonathan suffers from the worst disease you’ve never heard of, Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare genetic disease that causes the skin to endlessly blister, shear and scar. In severe cases such as Jonathan’s, it hurts to walk, eat and bath; to live.

His skin is so sensitive that his body must be wrapped in gauze to protect it at all times. Even the lightest brush of a bed sheet can cause another burn-like blister. Wounds now cover most of his body; more blisters plague his mouth and throat.

Like many other boys his age, Jonathan dreamed of being a professional athlete; he wanted to be a pro hockey player. Sadly, as his condition worsened he had to let go of his dream.

That was until pro hockey franchise the Ottawa Senators caught wind of Jonathan’s plight. Completely taken by his honesty and strength, they decided to invite the die-hard fan to the stadium, and make his dreams come true.

Jonathan is truly a remarkable person; he is constantly smiling despite being in pain every second of everyday, we can all learn a lot from his strength and lust for life.
