VIA|When an atheist group petitioned to remove a cross from a public city park, their Mayor’s response left them speechless. This is amazing!
Raw Story reported that the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) sent a letter to Port Neches city government last week and argued that a Christian cross standing in Riverfront Park violated the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.
“The Latin cross is the principal symbol of Christianity around the world, and display of the cross alone could not reasonably be taken to have any secular point,” FFRF attorney Rebecca Markert explained in the letter.
After the petition to have the Christian symbol removed, a Christian group called for an organized Sunday prayer vigil in support of the cross.
In response to the anti-cross group, Mayor Glenn Johnson, insisted that it wouldn’t be going anywhere — at least not on his watch. He said:
“I want to make it perfectly clear to the citizens of Port Neches specifically that this mayor and this city council will not fold, it will not bend, it will not roll over.
We’re going to fight this all the way. And if it goes to court then it goes to court. And we’ll fight it there as well.”
Watch to the rest of this city’s epic stand for Christ. This is legendary!
What do you think of the Mayor’s response to the atheist group?
While my relationship with God is not dependent on any monument in a park, I will take a stand for Christ and defend my rights — the same rights our American forefathers fought and died for. Please share if you agree.
