About 1,500 AK-47 assault rifles were among a cache of weapons intercepted by the coastal patrol ship USS Sirocco on March 28, 2016. The weapons, assembled on the deck of the guided-missile destroyer USS Gravely, were seized from a stateless dhow.
Among weapons seized from a stateless dhow in the Arabian Sea on March 28, 2016, were about 200 rocket-propelled grenade launchers. The weapons, which also included an array of machine guns, were seized by the Coastal Patrol ship USS Sirocco assisted by the guided-missile destroyer USS Gravely, where the weapons were assembled.
It was the third seizure of weapons by international naval forces in the Arabian Sea in a month, U.S. 5th Fleet said in a statement. In all three instances, the weapons were assessed by U.S. officials to have originated in Iran.
